First Saturday Devotion

January 4 @ 10:30 am - 2:30 pm

“You at Least Try to Console Me…” Join with us on the First Saturday of each month to honor and console our heavenly Mother and answer the call of the Child Jesus – “And have you spread through the world what our heavenly Mother requested of you?”

Why Five First Saturdays? Because Our Lord and Our Lady (of Fatima) asked for it. Dec. 10, 1925: Sr. Lucia revealed that Our Lady, along with the Child Jesus elevated on a luminous cloud, appeared to her pleading for the Five First Saturday Devotion to be established in the world. The Child Jesus pleaded: “Have compassion on the Heart of your most Holy Mother, Covered with thorns, with which ungrateful men pierce it at every moment, and there is no one to make an act of reparation to them. Then the most holy Virgin said: “Look my daughter, at my heart, surrounded with thorns with which ungrateful men pierce me every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. You, at least, try to console me and say that I promise to assist at the hour of death, with the graces necessary for salvation, all those who, on the first Saturday of five consecutive month, shall confess, receive Holy Communion, recite five decades of the Rosary, and keep me company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary, with the intention of making reparation to me.” (Fatima in Lucia’s Own Words) Note: book available in our Shrine Gift Shop.

Why five First Saturdays and not nine like the Nine First Fridays? Sr. Lucia revealed that her confessor was questioning the Five First Saturday Devotion because since early times the Church had designed First Saturdays to Our Lady. On Feb. 15, 1926, while Sr. Lucia was tending the convent garden, a small boy child (who had appeared a few weeks earlier in the garden) reappeared to her, transforming into the resplendent Child Jesus: “It is true, my daughter, that many souls begin the First Saturdays, but few finish them, and those who do complete them do so in order to receive the graces that are promised thereby. It would please me more if they did Five with Fervour and with the intention of making reparation to the Heart of your heavenly Mother, than if they did fifteen, in a tepid and indifferent manner. (Fatima In Lucia’s Own Words) Note: book available in our Shrine Gift Shop.

Please bring your children, friends and neighbors to join us on First Saturday to console Our Lady.
