WAF petitions Holy Father to establish First Saturdays Devotion in the Universal Church

02197_22112014The World Apostolate of Fatima International President Prof. Américo Pablo Lopez Ortiz, and the International Secretariat Mr. Nuno Prazeres, were among a group of 300 participants representing 100 movements and new communities from 40 countries, at the Third World Congress of Ecclesial Movements and New Communities, organized by the Pontifical Council for the Laity in Rome, November 20-22. The theme of the event was “The Joy of the Gospel, a Missionary Joy.” They were received by Pope Francis on the last day in Clementine Hall in the Vatican.

Prof. Américo personally handed to Pope Francis an eight-page petition letter on behalf of the World Apostolate of Fatima International to establish the First Saturdays Devotion in the Universal Church, and spoke to him about this devotion, “the forgotten part of the Message of Fatima.” The Holy Father expressed his delight and affection for the Message of Fatima, a subject close to his paternal heart. Prof. Américo summarized to the Holy Father that the universal practice of the First Saturdays Devotion is a condition associated with (1) world peace; (2) conversion of many sinners; (3) grace of final perseverance for those practicing it; and (4) unity and strength of the Universal Church against inner dissentions opposing the Magisterium of the Successor of Peter; in a word, the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary promised at Fatima.

The grace of unity and strength of the Universal Church is a special assistance from Our Lady of Fatima to the Petrine ministry of the Pope, and it is mentioned in the correspondence between Sister Lucia and Saint John Paul II. As we are approach the centennial of the Fatima Apparitions in the year 2017, this should be the greatest gift of the Universal Church to Our Lady of Fatima, the universal establishment of the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Communion of Reparation of the First Saturdays! Pope Francis was overjoyed by this message and appreciated vividly the assistance promised to his Petrine ministry by Our Lady of Fatima in our modern day. This personal meeting was the longest of the audiences with Pope Francis, and accomplished a mission of the World Apostolate of Fatima.

“Now comes the hard part,” stated Prof. Américo. “Much prayer, penance and apostolic efforts must be offered to see that the First Saturdays Devotion is established in our respective local churches and in the Universal Church as a sign of the definitive triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary promised at Fatima.”

The petition to establish the First Saturdays Devotion in the Universal Church is so the cult of veneration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary will be extended throughout the world, he explained.

“We must enter into the new stage of development of the Message of Fatima, the dissemination of her cult in order to pass from one stage to the next, and make possible the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This will be done with the establishment of the First Saturdays Devotion, ‘putting the devotion to this Immaculate Heart beside the devotion to My Sacred Heart,’ as Jesus said to Sister Lucia.”
