Seeking God’s Guidance for the United States: An Appeal for Prayers

Seeking God’s Guidance for the United States: An Appeal for Prayers

As we approach the 250th anniversary of the founding of our nation, the President has called for a campaign of prayer leading up to this milestone. A call to prayer such as this should be a time of unified vision and good will for the sake of our nation, which has put the need for Divine guidance aside. Let us put our partisan differences aside. Let us put our religious differences aside. Petitioning God to bless our nation should come from all believers.

From the founding of our nation, dependence on Divine direction has been acknowledged. Is it any coincidence that we now find ourselves in difficult times, as we chose to redefine the terms of life and governance as befitting to us, and not necessarily as it has been ordained by Almighty God?

George Washington stated: “It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible.” The Catholic Church has always joined this sentiment. In 1791 Archbishop Carroll consecrated the United States. Here is an excerpt from that prayer:

“We recommend likewise, to your unbounded mercy, all our brethren and fellow citizens throughout the United States, that they may be blessed in the knowledge and sanctified in the observance of your most holy law; that they may be preserved in union, and in that peace which the world cannot give; and after enjoying the blessings of this life, be admitted to those which are eternal.”

Let us first put sin aside, follow His laws and then ask him to bless our nation. We have not only embraced sin but institutionalized it. We cannot expect our just God to bless actions that defy His laws. From the time of creation defiance of Divine law has set us on paths of confusion. Laws given in the Old Testament and expanded by Christ and the Church must be the foundation of all our actions.

At Fatima, Our Lady gave us a peace plan from heaven. It promised a solution to the wars and chaos of godlessness if her requests were heeded. The request was simple, but our response has not been sufficient. A beautiful world awaits us if we turn from sin and embrace the message which she brought to us. The message of Fatima calls for adherence to the laws of God. The Catholic Faith is a call to adherence to the laws of God. Christian thought is a call to the adherence to the laws of God. Our country and the entire world will benefit if we accept this reality.

The late Pope Benedict XVI warned us about the dictatorship of relativism that has taken over the world. It is generally accepted today that truth is as we define it individually. Pilate asked, “What is truth?” as he looked directly at Truth Incarnate. We can only expect the blessings for our nation and our world if we accept the truth that is presented in our Faith.

The Holy Father has asked all to pray the rosary in October for peace in the world. Our Lady at Fatima reminded us that war is a punishment for sin. The problems are apparent as is the solution.

The people of Nineveh repented of their sins and avoided destruction. “Seeing that the city of Nineveh repented of their wickedness, God relented concerning the judgment he had threatened them with and he did not destroy them.” (Jonah 3:10)

The world stands at the threshold of destruction daily. Only the mercy of God keeps us from this fate. In the last part of the Fatima Secret, the angel stood with a flaming sword, ready to bring down upon a defiant world a great conflagration. The hand of Our Lady was then seen holding back this destruction. Through her powerful intercession we can attain peace in the world and in our nation. This is the call of Fatima. Repentance and trust in God and His mercy is the call of Fatima and of our Faith.

The President has called for prayers in 2026 ahead of the 250th anniversary of the birth of our country. The United States has been blessed in countless ways throughout history. It has also encountered many difficulties. We live in an imperfect world, one which continually seeks solutions to our ills through a secular lens.  Perhaps the solution lies in looking to God and in asking for His guidance and inspiration to act accordingly. Let us all in true sincerity look to God to bless our nation as we approach this milestone in history.

God bless you and keep you in her Immaculate Heart.
