Feast of St. Thomas the Apostle

July 3 @ 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

St. Thomas was one of Christ’s Twelve Apostles. He is often referred to as “Doubting Thomas,” for in John 20:19-29, he asked for physical proof of the Resurrection of Christ. When Jesus appeared again, St. Thomas asked to touch his wounds, which lead to him exclaiming, “My Lord and my God,” making him the first to outwardly acknowledge Christ’s divinity and therefore, the Church herself. While little is known about St. Thomas’s life, especially after the Resurrection, the Martyrology says this:

“At Calamina (near Madras in India) the martyrdom of the apostle Thomas – he announced the Gospel to the Parthians, and finally came to India. After he had converted numerous tribes to Christianity, he was pierced with lances at the king’s command.”

On the Feast of St. Thomas the Apostle, we pray for faith:

Almighty and ever living God, who didst strengthen thine apostle Thomas with sure and certain faith in thy Son’s resurrection: Grant us so perfectly and without doubt to believe in Jesus Christ, our Lord and our God, that our faith may never be found wanting in thy sight; through him who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
