Feast of St. Nicholas

December 6, 2021 @ 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Little is known about the the life of St. Nicholas except that he was a man of great faith. During the fourth century, he was the Bishop of Myra, which is now present-day Turkey.

The most notable story connected to Saint Nicholas is one that speaks of his generosity. In the province of Lycia where St. Nicholas resided, the story tells us there was a family that came into misfortune when the father lost all of his money. Because his daughters had no prospects for marriage, they faced the being handed over into lives of prostitution. One night while the family was sleeping, St. Nicholas tossed three bags of gold into their home. This money saved the three daughters from their dreadful fate.

Prayer

O good Saint Nicholas, you who are the joy of the children, put in my heart the spirit of childhood, of which the Gospel speaks, and teach me to seed happiness around me. You, whose feast prepares us for Christmas, open my faith to the mystery of God made man.
You, good bishop and shepherd, help me to find my place in the Church and inspire the Church to be faithful to the gospel.
O good Saint Nicholas, patron of children, sailors, and the helpless, watch over those who pray to Jesus, your Lord and theirs, as well as over those who humble themselves before you. Bring us all in reverence to the Holy Child of Bethlehem, where true joy and peace are found.
Amen.
