Feast of St. Aloysius Gonzaga

June 21 @ 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

At a young age, St. Aloysius wished to dedicate his life to God. However, the son of an Italian nobleman, St. Aloysius’s family did not support him. Rather, his father trained him for the military and discouraged his religious pursuit. Yet, despite this, at age nine, St. Aloysius vowed to live a celibate life and began to teach catechism to poor young boys. During his teenage years, St. Aloysius suffered from a kidney disease, which often left him bedridden. However, he did not complain and instead, found it a blessing as it provided him with more time to pray. At age 18, St. Aloysius gave up his title and inheritance in order to become a Jesuit. Not long after, a plague broke out in Rome and in 1591, St. Aloysius succumbed to it after dedicating his time to caring for plague victims.

Prayer of St. Aloysius to the Blessed Mother

O holy Mary, my Mistress into thy blessed trust and special keeping, into the bosom of thy tender mercy, this day, every day of my life and at the hour of my death, I commend my soul and body; to thee I entrust all my hopes and consolations, all my trials and miseries, my life and the end of my life, that through thy most holy intercession and thy merits, all my actions may be ordered and disposed according to thy will and that of thy divine Son.

Amen.
